An assignment for my Graphic Essay course, in which we wrote a fairytale and chose illustrations to accompany it. Here's an excerpt:
"As she was swinging one day next to an old cemetery, she heard unfamiliar noises coming from somewhere nearby. Only a moment later, she realized that one of the graves was uncovered, and there was something moving around inside the wooden coffin.
Amarantha knew that there were only dead people cemeteries, so she didnt think she ought to be afraid. The lid of the coffin finally moved aside, and she saw a skeleton scramble out of it. When the skeleton stood up and dusted off his trousers, he stretched and looked around, spying young Amarantha on her swing, watching him curiously.
Why, hello, said the skeleton politely, to which Amarantha replied, how do you do?
Much better now that Im out of that old box! Said the skeleton."

I am officially hooked on this story! Please let us all know when it is finished! A lot of people have commented on "The Green Ribbon" inspiration, but I also see shades of Neil Gaiman's "Graveyard Book" (a personal favorite). I love Amarantha and Archibald--he is quite the gentleman! Speaking of fairy tales, I would love to see you illustrate some of the Grimm tales! Your style is perfectly suited for them!
I'd like to read that tale.
