Artist's Comments

"He doesn't like to talk about it," my friend Jenny explained while we were discussing the odd occurances in her old farm house. She was referring to her brother, who also grew up in this place. She and I were sitting on the hood of her car bantering back and fourth about the paranormal.

That is the house in this drawing. An undated farm house that they know next to nothing about... but pieces of untold stories have been put together over the years by the house's dead previous occupants. The legal owner, their grandmother, refuses to let experts date the place, as she's afraid of them condemning it and tearing it down.

I spent several hours in the house, scouring every nook and cranny, every crevice, ultimately interested and just plain curious about the past of the dilapidated old farm house.

At first glimpse of the place, you'd swear you were on the set for some horror thriller movie. Most of the porch and well... just about everything was hanging or falling off, including the interior. They'd piled up their belongings here and there, but it's only partially occupied these days, so there isn't much. Jenny showed me where she and her brother had slept when they were young, and every so often would point out where something odd had happened. A scream, a vision, a ghost, noises, objects being displaced... the usual ghost stories. But there's something unusual about this place to me. The energy of it was so chaotic... there was a little girl, an bitter man, a suicidal woman... the place was just brimming with horror stories.

I find it all fascinating, and I could go at great length about what happened there, and what is said to have happened there, but I'll leave it up to the viewer. Enjoy this piece ^_^

It was done in ink, colored in PhotoshopCS3

Very nice drawing. I love the simplicity of the background. It makes for a nice emphasis on the house itself. As for the house, it is very well drawn. I really like the detailing in the woodwork and the shadowing on the building as a whole. The fact that you've made the house fade into the black silhouette of background makes the house look even more forboding and abandoned. The composition looks great too. I like how you've placed the house off-center. It really depicts the fact that the house looks like it's in the middle of nowhere. Really well done. :)

i love this!! i love the artwork, and i love the story/explanation.

the artwork is stark, eerie, and simple (but in a good way)... that would pretty much sum up your explanation too - stark, eerie, and simple. there's enough there to suggest that there's something amiss, something not at all well, something unsettling. but there's enough room for the imagination to get working - which really invites the viewer in.

i think places hold the secrets of time gone by in their pores. if ya lean in and listen close enough... you just might be able to pick up on those secrets.
